The first ever 'Mithuru PC' computer laboratory in Sri Lanka was declared open recently amplifying the opportunities for using IT resources more effectively.
E-WIS, the premier IT vendor in Sri Lanka donated this first ever 'Mithuru PC' computer laboratory to Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya, Nawala, with the presence of Honourable Minister of Education, Mr. Susil Premjayantha as another step of fulfilling its duties to the nation.
This 'Mithuru PC' laboratory was donated by E-WIS, under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and the Secondary Education Modernization Project as a result of numerous and successful researches.
Mr. M Sachiththanandan the Deputy Ministry of Education, Mr. Anura Dissanayaka Director of the Secondary Education Modernization Project, Mr. Sanjeewa Wickramanayke Chairman of the E-WIS group and Mr. Kanchana Ratwatte the Director of E-WIS Group were also present at this occasion.
"A computer's resources are never used 100% when a person is using it. It always depends on the capacity required by the task the user is engaged in. For an instance, a task such as editing an image file using Photoshop require more resources like processor speed, memory and hard disk capacity than an edit happening with the use of the application Paint. Since factors like memory and processor speed etc. is not used to its maximum level always, these resources are wasted as no one else can use it effectively either." said Mr.Sanjeewa Wickramanayake explaining the grounds for creating the concept 'Mithuru PC'.
Explaining furthermore, he stated, "According to the 'Mithuru PC' concept, a computer only consumes the necessary resources for its task out of a computer which is connected to a Local Area Network. So there is no waste of resources at the same time it produces the opportunity to gain the maximum output with a lesser amount of resources."
Under the influence of the 'Mahinda Chainthana' programme of His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapakse and the exceptional leadership of Minister Susil Premjayantha, IT education in Sri Lanka has reached greater heights in past three years. The best evidence for that is the amplification of the computer literacy rates from 5% to 25%. The ministry of education and the Secondary Education Modernization Project look forward to to carry its endeavours to greater heights next year as they name 2009 as the 'Year of English and IT'.
As a developing country which aims to touch the pinnacles in the IT field, Sri Lanka has the best use out of a concept like 'Mithuru PC' as it allows reaching maximum rates of proficiency out of lower resource rates which results in less investment required.
Most importantly, by spreading this concept among Educational institutes including schools, universities allow more students to experience the newer vistas of knowledge and IT.
E-WIS is planning to use The 'Mithuru PC' concept to spread its spirit radiating the IT education strategies in Sri Lanka contributing to produce more IT professionals in near future.
